Just a note

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 10:33 am

I added a link to David Bonner’s blog. (There’s no link to it on Cris’ website!) :O You (reader) totally have to read his Chicago adventure entry from July 22nd! Hilarious! :D

Apologies: I know my blog links are pretty sparse, but that’s because the Indy Church blogroll has everybody I know on it from church, and Cris’ website has a link to her blog and those of all my other friends (under Snippets of Sanity). Just seems kinda superfluous to put them all on mine when they’re on everybody else’s too. …Hm, “superfluous” on a Friday… Is it the weekend yet? Do I owe money? It’s 10:30 in the morning, so I say, “No.” :) I’m in the clear with my big word! ;D

Family Time

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 11:17 am

Last Friday night, our entire household (me, Bubbs, Sarah, Dad, and Mom) watched the two-hour series premiere of Stargate Atlantis on the Sci-fi channel. This is newsworthy event because I can’t remember the last time my entire family (Amanda and Brian are excused from this term since they live in a different household) sat down to watch a TV show together. There are several that most of us watch (Monk, Dead Zone, Stargate SG-1, ER, etc.), but even with those many times we are in two groups: part in the living room and part in the kitchen. And although last Friday Mom fell asleep at some point (as she often does), I think this one counts for family time.

And I have to say it made me a bit nostalgic, harkening back to the days when we would all gather in the living room (in front of a smaller screen, then) and watch Star Trek: The Next Generation or Deep Space Nine or Quantum Leap… Come to think of it, there seems to be a pattern here with sci-fi shows…

Knitting

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 3:07 pm

My friend, Cris, loves to knit, and she’s good at it! She makes baby blankets most often, but she has been known to make scarves and hats and has at least attempted socks. For a while I have been thinking about asking her to show me how to knit, but I never have mostly because it seems terribly complicated. :P (Some stitches really are; others, I think, are easier than they look.) But yesterday, Katie A. taught me how to finger knit, and it’s fun and easy! :) The only drawback I’ve found is that I don’t quite know what to do with the 15 or so feet of tubing I have knitted…

And fat lot of help google is! All it can do is suggest books I can buy which only use finger knitting as a jumping off point for real knitting. :P And not just a jumping off point, but a jumping off point for little kids! I resent that. I’m not a little kid; I just have limited skill with my hands. :P I might be able to handle a couple of needles, if I tried. Meanwhile, I’m gonna figure out something to do with this colorful, though, currently, useless rope I’ve knitted. ;)

Rage Against the Machine

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 11:21 am

I’ve been trying to blog for the last couple of days, but alas, technology has called off our truce. It’s true. There was a year in college when technology and I were at odds, but we called a truce and have been working amicably with each other ever since then. …At least, we had been until a couple of days ago…

The Enchanted Barn

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 5:05 pm

Last night was the last night of the Ladies-In-Waiting book study (over Ravi Zacharias’ “I, Isaac, Take Thee, Rebekah”). This time, instead of meeting at the Blanchfields or the chicken house, we met at Amanda’s house (a.k.a. The Enchanted Barn). :) It’s out in Mooresville, so it’s a bit of a drive, but it’s a fun place to be (but that could have a lot to do with the people there). ;)

For instance, Amanda - ever the outdoor adventurer - took Cris and I into the woods around her house, where I quickly went from excited to …eaten. My mom used to tell me that she always thought I’d be a missionary, until she realized how much I hated bugs. (Little did she realize that God had a way around that!) ;D Actually, I didn’t get eaten too badly, and Amanda was gracious enough to get me out of there fairly quickly. ;)

Dinner was delicious, and the conversation was most enjoyable. It was so much fun to be with a Christian family at their dinner table; they made me feel completely at home. I love being around them. :) After dinner, Amanda, Cris, and I followed Amanda’s dad, Rob, next door to their grandparents’ house to learn some “Powderpuff Mechanics”. Lesson 2: brakes. With a Superchick CD playing in the background, for moral support, we succeeded in watching Rob replace the front brakes on Cris’ car. :) For your information, though, Cris and Amanda each put one of the tires back on, and I was watching and keeping track of stuff at least. And I did learn something! I finally found out what a cotterpin looks like! :) I can’t say that I’ll be able to put my own brakes on my car (all by myself) when they need replaced next time, but I might be able to do it with a little supervision. ;) (Surprisingly, it’s not as horribly difficult as it seemed to be at first.) :)

After a late night Wal-Mart run, we did the standard girl thing of staying up late eating chocolate and watchin’ chick flicks, then got up this morning to do the “book study” part of our slumber party (while Cris and Amanda painted their nails). :) In our defense though, I must say that our conversations have been outstanding throughout this study, and today was no exception. I’ve learned a lot in the past few months about the other girls, and we’ve had a lot to offer each other: prayer support, accountability, and advice (about life, love, and other mysteries). ;) We plan on continuing to meet together periodically so that we can maintain the friendships we’ve established and continue to be there for each other as we move through life. They truly are an awesome group of girls, and I’m so glad to know them. :)

Spider-Man 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 1:17 pm

Sarah, Keith, Bubbs, and I went to see Spider-Man 2 yesterday at Circle Center Mall. The movie was great - excitement, cool effects, laughs. :) Of course, there was the obligatory “inconsiderate cell phone man”, as well as a group of people mocking the movie and laughing loudly enough to disturb the rest of us; that was a little annoying. …But I never should have gone in the bathroom…

It smelled like a latrine in there!!! Whose momma is not doing their job in teaching their daughters to FLUSH?! It was disgusting! I had gone in there to wait for Sarah (as Bubbs and Keith visited the Men’s Room), but I couldn’t stand the stench and had to leave. I felt like a cowardly soldier, leaving a man behind, but I just couldn’t take it! :O I suppose the trade-off between Eagle Highlands and Circle Center is either a movie with sound/picture problems or forgoing the drink (unless you’re willing to make a dash down a level and across to the food court or the nearest department store). Your choice. :P

Or might I suggest visiting a different theater to see Spider-Man 2… ;)

It starts…

Okay, so I gave in and got a blog. :) I make no promises as to how often it’s updated, but I will try to keep it regular (maybe fiber would help). ;) In addition to any general stuff, I’ll be keeping Hollywood updates on here so that anyone who’s interested in that can stay in the loop. (I plan on continuing with the updates once I’m there, too.) :) So thanks for visiting, and I promise to make the area look beter once I get the hang of it. (What’s with the numbers and letters for colors anyway?)
