“A Series of Unfortunate Events”

Filed under: Uncategorized — katie @ 6:15 pm

I’ve been chronicling my own Series of Unfortunate Events recently. At first I thought that it was for some purpose, like, I thought God might have wanted me to share the story at church (as we ended our most recent book study). After all, it was the last few chapters in the book that got me thinking about it (though I read them far, far ahead of time). And I suspected this “push to share” more and more as the completion of our study was pushed back week after week (perhaps giving me time to finish my chronicle?). But we finished the study last week, and I said nothing (though I took all my materials with me).

What other reason could there be for reliving all of that? It’s not like I was in danger of forgetting it. When I first started thinking about it, I was wondering if perhaps God had a reconciliation (of sorts) in mind. I searched through scripture on that very subject, particularly (and don’t cringe) Matthew 18. I knew the verses already (nearly by heart), but I looked again to get fresh perspective, and kept hitting a snag… “If your brother sins against you…” I never got any farther than that. Because that’s the crux, isn’t it? If he hasn’t, then the rest of the passage is useless (in that situation). …I still don’t know if he did. And I kind of wanted input on that, particularly from someone completely outside the situation. …Maybe I’ll still get it. I don’t know.
